Gaelic for “wee island”) is a new/old developing farm in progress in. It is 20 acres of growing and living space in the midst of a 100 acre forest, meadows, wetlands and creeks. The farm is a small mixed permaculture homestead that includes veggie gardens, an old fruit orchard , a new fruit and nut orchard, chickens, turkeys, pigs and bees. The farmhouse, Earthen Tara, is built using materials from the farm and employing a variety of natural building techniques and passive solar designs.
Three young women who operate Saanich, Rachel Fisher, Heather Stretch, and Robin Tunnicliff have been a great source of friendship and inspiration. Check out their book about farming "All The Dirt".
